Brexit update

Four years ago, the British people voted to leave the EU. On 31 January 2020, the UK officially left the EU. As we speak, the EU and the Brits are still discussing the final terms of the exit agreement. At the moment there are still three stumbling blocks for the EU and the UK: fishery, surveillance and the level playing field.

With fishery the question is whether, for example, Dutch fishermen are still allowed to fish in English waters. With supervision we mean monitoring the agreements made in the Brexit deal. Will the Europeans have the initiative or the UK? Finally, the negotiations are about the ‘level playing field’. These negotiations can involve anything and everything. Think about environmental and product standards, but also about agreements on state aid to companies.
